Around the League: Jason Heyward’s Nickname

Before we go any further, it seems only fair to tell you that I can see the fear in your eyes. That look of sheer horror, pupils dilated to the size of gumballs, with precipitating tears of terror sprinkling out of your eye-lids. But I command you: Do not be afraid. This may be the Summer of Heyward, but I won’t be that guy who crams it down your throat every other column.

However, every time the planets align, prophesy calls for a Jason Heyward feature. It’s what the universe wants.

Around the League (Opening Day)

No amount of hyperbole can quite measure up to Jason Heyward’s superhero like introduction to MLB yesterday. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a debut quite as spectacular. Not to say there hasn’t been one, just that I haven’t seen it.

I think most of us owe Nationals third baseman, Ryan Zimmerman, an apology.

In 2006? Top prospect. Future star. Potential 30/20 guy.

Fast forward to the winter or 2008. He was a bust. A flash in the pan. Probable 15/6 guy.

-It comes as no surprise that the Athletics are three games under .500 at this point. Those who thought they had a shot this year predicted it would take a late season run. Young pitching takes time to develop. What does come as a surprise is pitching has not been the only problem; the offense has been non-existent.

I don’t like the Mariners anymore than I did a month ago, but with Bedard and King Felix pitching as well as they have, their chances of sneaking up and snatching the West are rising with each start.
